The particles and the counters come from the same tasks.
Released tasks wait in a queue and are assigned to workers with free capacity. Each worker handles 8 tasks at a time, so switching between 1 and 16 lanes changes the number of execution slots.
Injecting a failure stops some workers for 5 seconds. Affected tasks go back to the retry queue and resume in the next free slot. Completed tasks are never added again, so nothing is counted twice.
The graphics and the processing model run inside this page. They do not reproduce real external APIs or network failures. In a real service, the design also covers data persistence, de-duplication, retry limits and monitoring.
